TAKE FOR A RIDE
TAKE IT ON THE CHIN
TAKE HEART
TAKE THE BISCUIT/ CAKE

Remember to revise the meaning(s) and main uses of the prepositions that TAKE takes to form PHRASALs: aback, after, apart, away, back, down, for, in, off, on, out, to, up.

Lesson 22nd September 2010

Thank you for the interesting suggestions during the lesson!
Here are the links we looked at and I would appreciate your comments, of course!

  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV0YbYECU7A (Julia Roberts-Oscar)
  2. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/bristol/hi/people_and_places/newsid_8867000/8867923.stm (This is about another phone box, but when I tried to search for exactly the same article as we viewed in class, the BBC search engine produced lots of other related news about the rescuing of old red BT phone boxes which have been turned into village library all over the UK!) I hope you find it interesting. There's an interesting word for it too: bookcrossing.
  3. http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/ This is the main site and I strongly recommend you to browse through it.
  4. We looked at the 6minutesEnglish about OAPs: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/general/sixminute/2010/09/100916_6min_ageing_population_page.shtml
  5. a chapter of The Flatmates: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDBa9prgxxE
  6. and the explanation of the word "manky" in the section on vocabulary about keeping your English up to date: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/radio/specials/1453_uptodate3/page12.shtml. This audio belongs to the series 3, but feel free to listen to any other word in the other of the 6 series created so far. Perhaps you could select one that you found particularly interesting and tell us about it in our next class!
Just a reminder about the homework(HW) set for Monday's lesson: Workbook (WB) p.25.
See you on Monday and have a nice weekend!
